Juliet, Frida and Love

Falda con fondo copysmall

This look was inspired by two unique women Juliet and Frida. They were both extremely passionate and romantic. These two women had totally different backgrounds, but when it comes to love we are all the same. I think that love is one of the most beautiful feelings that a human being can experience. I dedicate this post to all the girls and boys that believe in love :) But I specially want to dedicate this post to my little prince Diego because today is his birthday!!!!!!! He is turning four!!! And I love him with all my heart!! Today is such a happy day over here! :)

I love roses so much! They are little miracles from nature. Many of the vintage brooches in my collection are roses. But they also have so many different meanings :)

Love is much like a wild rose, beautiful and calm, but willing to draw blood in its defense.” (Mark Overby)

Life is a rose; beware of the thorns.” (unknown)

Man is harder than iron, stronger than stone and more fragile than a rose.” (Turkish proverb)

He who wants a rose must respect the thorn.” (Persian proverb)

Do not watch the petals fall from the rose with sadness, know that, like life, things sometimes must fade, before they can bloom again.” (unknown)

Here I am wearing my vegetarian top to celebrate good health :) I got this inspiration the other day while having a green salad for lunch. This top was carefully made using selected fresh lettuce leaves from our local farmer's market :O (I'm kidding!!!) But I am not kidding when I say that I went to Whole Foods wearing this top the other day and a funny young man who works there recommended oil and vinegar to complete my look. I said absolutely, but how about a large pair of red tomatoes earrings? ja ja ja He agreed!

Top: Love Stitch

Tiny Gold earrings: I got them in NY so long ago!

Inspired by: The 50's

It all started with these charming cat eye sunglasses from the 50's. I love sunglasses and I wear them whenever I go out because my eyes are kind of sensitive to light. There are two possible explanations to this eye situation: 1. I think that it could be because I started wearing sunglasses in Cuba soooo many years ago. The sun over there is really strong and your eyes need lots of protection. Maybe my eyes just got used to them 2. The second possible explanation is that in my previous life I was a vampire. I hear that vampires are also pretty sensitive to light :o

So, after I got the cat eye ones I decided to put this outfit together. The idea was to recreate that happy look from the 50's that I enjoy so much. This look has a lot to do with being happy and ready to go to the supermarket :)

Now, If I could go back to the 50's for a day I would choose  March 2nd of 1959 because that's the day when Bill was born :) Yay!! I would love to see him as a little newborn, I need to bring a camera :)

Sunglasses: Vintage from Etsy (Archivia)

Inspired by: Frida Kahlo

Here you can see myself in two different interpretations of Frida Kahlo

Frida copy 2

Sad Frida. The one who had to deal with a lot of pain in her life.

Happy Frida. The one that celebrated beauty, regardless of her physical and emotional traumas.

Frida Kahlo has been such a great source of inspiration to me since the beginning. I discovered her art when I was about 15 years old. Later on, I read everything about her life and I was lucky enough to visit her house (La Casa azul) in Coyoacan, in 2000. Discovering Frida was one of the best things that happened to me in my adolescence. Today, that I am an adult, I appreciate her even more.

She has teached me not to take anything for granted (like my health, my children, my wonderful husband...) Wherever you are right now Frida, I just want to tell you that your life was important for the rest of us. You keep being an inspiration for so many women.

Mil gracias por todo!
