So, today we have two books for our giveaway:
Ordinary Sparkling Moments (ONE copy) and Roots and Recollections: A Century of Rockywold-Deephaven Camps (THREE copies). If you are interested in winning one of these books just leave a comment in this post and I will announce the 4 winners on Monday, February 2nd of 2009. The registration for Squam Art Workshops 2009 opens that same Monday.
Now let's take a look at the books:
Ordinary Sparkling Moments by Christine Mason Miller (
www.christinemasonmiller.com) was launched at Squam Art Workshops in 2008. It is a beautiful book that explores the ways in which we can find and celebrate creative inspiration in our daily lives.
Roots and Recollections: A Century of Rockywold-Deephaven Camps by Megan Thorn recounts the extraordinary creation of the RDC camps that was founded in 1897 by two amazing visionaries:Alice Mabel Bacon and Mary Alice Armstrong. Published in 1997 to commemorate a century of stewardship and continued success, the book features stunning archival photographs of the people, the distinctive architecture of the camps and above all the dramatic beauty of the Squam Lakes region. Naturally, the book is also replete with stories and anecdotes about this unique family camp that is steeped in rich tradition.
I had the honor to be invited to be one of the teachers at the Squam Art Workshops and I think that this is going to happen next year when my life is a little bit slower, I will be teaching papercutting, I can't wait!!!
But I wish that I could go this year as an student, the
teachers that will be in charge of the workshops are
sooo great!
Have a great Monday!!!!
Elsita :)

The Squam Art Workshop sounds wonderful. I wish I could attend but live too far away. Congratulations on being invited to teach papercutting there. You are already a great teacher through your blog. I'm sure you will be even more inspirational in person.

Do you think they would let me reserve a spot in you class a year in advance. I would love to learn papercutting from you.
My sweet friend Maya of Maya*made is one of the teachers this year.

Ive been reading a lot about squam everywhere, it sounds like such a wonderful magical place!
Posted by: tricia | January 27, 2009 at 07:13 AM
sparkling moments was a ritual phrase that was used in a group i was a member of many years ago. we used it to reflect upon not what was wrong or troubling about a situation but to refer to the moments of grace that can sometimes be hidden from us by our own feelings.
i would love to have this book whether i win the give-away or not :)

How about doing a papercutting workshop in Los Angeles? There's a paper store on LaBrea, right around the corner! I'd be there in a second for a workshop.

Ahhh, Squam Lake. It's still very much as it was portrayed in "On Golden Pond" (one of my favorite all time movies) It so beautiful there, I hope you you can make it, you'd love here in New Hampshire. Wish I could take your class, that would be such a thrill for me. I'll have to try and save my pennies.

I'm definitely intrigued--the location sounds even more amazing than I already imagined, and what a treat it would be to learn from some of the teachers, including my friends Maya of maya*made and Laura Nelkin (knitting genius), Derek and Lauren, and Betz White, among many other wonders. I've already picked out a whole fantasy list of classes I'd want to take, and I wish Elsita was on the list!! That would make it a slam dunk for my decision whether to go or not.

Elsita,
I have been following all of your posts but have been so busy and so you haven't heard from me in your comments... but I just had to say how happy I am for the success that Bill has had with Milk and how much I love your new papercuttings!!! You are an endless inspiration to me!! And I just think your children are the most adorable kids... I love that dark hair! Anyways... this post is truly fascinating to me as I am in the process of opening a studio here where I live, to serve as my own work space, a gallery, a shop of handmade art and craft, and most importantly a place to teach! I am so intrigued by these books and will definitely look for them (I never win give-aways, but that's okay). I think you should teach when you are able... the inspiration is always so wonderful from your students. I just wish I could send a big hug... you are such a special person!

We've been reading your blog for a long time. You art and activities are so engaging. You have inspired us to feature a little art on our daily photo site tomorrow. If you have time, stop by and look at some "patriotic pottery" from Greensboro, North Carolina!
