Dear friend,
What a wonderful thing had just happened to the United States of America and to the world. What a wonderful historical time this is with the election of Barack Obama as the President of the USA. How much hope this victory brings to us!! My heart is filled with joy.
Bill and I had the amazing privilege to meet Barrack Obama in 2005. He came to Hollywood for a fundraising organized at the home of Will Smith's agent and the words that he said that night made such a great impact in everyone. He wasn't famous yet but we immediately realized that as a politician he was someone quiet different; a smart, inspiring man, a natural leader plus he had such a great sense of humor. The fact that he has become the President of the USA is something bigger than we are able to understand right now. This is almost amazing.
We also had the rare opportunity to meet John McCain in 2002. In Romania!! While Bill was producing Cold Mountain. He and his wife plus a couple of other politicians came over to some dinner with the people from the movie. It was just a coincidence that they were in Romania by the time the movie was getting made. It was pretty surreal, he was outside waiting for the dinner to start so I iniciated a conversation with him (with my then very basic and terrible English) Somehow we ended up talking about Cuba as you can imagine. Bill joined the conversation later and soon we had to finish because McCain said, OK, we better stop talking because we're never going to agree on this matter, the end! But I have to say that his speech last night was a good one and thank him very much for that.
Today I want to celebrate Obama,s victory with this cute drawing that Natalie made last night while we were jumping and screaming and laughing loud and running all over our house. This country is going through a hard time right now but knowing that Obama will be the man in charge makes me feel very positive. I am sure that he will do his best because he is a good man and a good politician.
I hope that you have a great day today!!!!
And I will be back tomorrow!
Elsita :)

CONGRATULATIONS
I have seen a number of speeches and he is really impressive. I hope he will inspire many people to help him with his job. Let us just say: Yes I can. Even if it is just an everyday challenge.
Let me tell you something funny. While we were moving, there where challeging moments. Than I thought of him and said to myself: Yes I can. And you know what I didn't fail once, not even with the very large and heavy furniture. A good lesson for myself.
See you tomorrow.

it reminds me of something similar when President Mitterrand was first elected here in '81 and I fully understand your joy. As for us non-Americans we will be able to esteem you again, et ce n'est pas rien.
bon mandat à Obama !

Good job, America! ;) It was such a pleasure to wake up today (in Europe) and finally hear what was expected and hoped for here. Living in a postcommunist country, I know very well that significant changes begin with someone's inspiring leadership and strong belief that such changes are within reach right now :)
Congrats & all the best!

Hooray! There were literally people dancing in the street in the town where I live. It was such a wonderful and joyful contrast to all the protests that have occurred in the cities I have lived in during the past eight years. I am full of smiles in and out.

Congratulations!!!
Also here in the Netherlands we celebrated! One colleague had a t-shirt with Obama on it and another one bought a cake to celebrate it. I am surprised how far the importance of the election of your president Obama reaches in the hearts of so many people!!!

The joy and the significance of our new and inspiring president has moved me more than words. I'm so excited for our children. My little daughter also wrote that special name...OBAMA and I shared it on my post. Imagine... hope... all words I can do joyfully now. Big sigh of relief. Not all agree, but everyone must find there own truth. Natalie- I LOVE your drawing!!!

I am ecstatic! I spent the day after the election crying every time I thought about what is now possible in our country, needless to say, I cried a lot.
My 2 year old daughter got the confusing explanation of crying of happiness. I love that she knows him by sight and knows his whole name.
What a wonderful opportunity that you got to meet Obama, McCain...not so much :)

It's funny that you met Obama at Will Smith's agent's house because I've recently been thinking about the similarities between the two... good looking in an off-beat way, skinny, big ears and funny. I'm so happy that he'll be our next president.
Even more interesting was to hear that you had a political discussion (argument?) with McCain. Good for you! It's so important to speak truth to power. Maybe they're finally starting to listen.
And I'm still giddy over the win. I keep thinking I should take down our Obama window sign, but I'm not ready to yet. Maybe on January 20th when he takes office.
