Eight Adorable Dolls :)

I made these cute little friends out of wood, wool felt and acrylic paint. They have movable wire arms. My favorite is the boy with the tall hat.

Today I just wanted to share my little Mandarina with you :)

This doll is one of those things that I make and then I can't part with.

I just love her so much!

Mandarina makes me happy any time I look at her face.

Dorita :)

 Dorita is adorable!

The main reason why I made her is because I really wanted to make a doll with a big hair.

Dorita's hair is made out of this yarn that I got in Florida the last time that I visited my family over there.

That yarn is so soft and the color is so pretty :)

I also made Dorita a tiny purse for carrying her miniature book.

Everything looks so cute in person!

I'm very happy with the final result.

Alice in Wonderland and her Bunny Rabbit

I absolutely loved the process of creating this  Alice!

She's so proud of her fancy hairstyle :)

Her bunny rabbit is so sweet! He has red eyes

But what I love the most about these characters is the size.

She's soooo cute in person!

Mira reminds me of a good friend of mine from Kindergarten named Sandra.

I called her Sandrita. Sandrita was also my neighbor when I was growing up. Her brother was like Diego. I don't know if he was exactly Autistic but he had some developmental problems as well. One day he (Vikito was his nickname) saved my life. Some crazy boy from the neighborhood liked me, he liked me so much that he decided to throw rocks at me with his friend. So, Vikito scared them away by screaming as loud as he could and throwing rocks back at them. From that day on, the rock-boy didn't like me anymore and that made me really happy :).

Sandrita is now an adult as you can imagine and has 2 beautiful girls herself. Her brother Vikito is an adult as well, he carries passangers from one place to the other in his bicycle, that's his job. 

When I visited Cuba in 2006 I asked for Vikito's bicycle services. He didn't remember me at all, but I will always keep him and Sandrita in my heart :) Sandrita and I correspond via e-mail now and then.

Memories from childhood are the best.

Making dolls is like being a child again, when I make my dolls I feel closer to the child in me :)

Oh Vivian! The romantic Vivian with her head always in the clouds :)

She's always daydreaming.

She's wearing her sweet bonnet, a velvet skirt and a crocheted top.

Her facial expression is adorable and her eyes are full of curiosity.

Here is another  sweet dolly and her name is: Alina. 

Alina is 4 1/4" tall from shoes to hat. 

Her arms and legs can move, they are jointed with silicone elastic.

I made her tiny dress out of cotton fabric with pink ribbon accents.

Her hat was made out of paperclay as well as her body and they're both painted with acrylic paint.

Alina is adorable in person, her facial expression is soooo sweet.

Another Wooden Doll in Progress

 

I have been reading a lot about wood lately and the more I learn about it the more I realize what a magic 

material this is. Wood is something real, alive, that comes from a tree.

And trees are one of the most amazing things from nature.

I cannot wait to finish my first wooden doll.

Right now I have 2 of them in progress. It is a slow and wonderful process that I am enjoying a lot :)

Building a Fancy Chair for Alexandra the Doll

 

 

 

 

This is the very first step for a chair that I am building right now.

This chair will be Alexandra's "throne" and it will look beautiful in the end.

Now I have to cover the lower part of this armature with paperclay.

The upper part will be covered with fabric and then painted.

I cannot wait to see the final piece!

Martina is such a sweet girl. 

I really love her adorable facial expression, hair, clothes, book...everything!

I sculpted her (out of paperclay) in a permanent seated position. Her arms are movable, jointed with silicone elastic. Her face,  undergarment and boots have been painted with acrylic paint.

The tiny blank book measures 1 1/2" x 2" and it has a hand cut silhouette of a girl on the cover.

Martina's velvet cape and skirt are removable.

Something really fun about Martina is that she can wear so many different hair styles! 

After she was finished all I wanted to do was try different hair styles on her.

I felt like a little girl again myself :)

Two New Kokeshi-inspired Dolls

 

I finally finished two new kokeshi-inspired dolls and they came out so cute!

The other day I had this idea of carving the head of one of the kokeshi wooden blanks that I have.

But I need to be patient.

Because right now I'm waiting for a dust collector that I ordered. Sanding wood generates so much dust!

As soon as it arrives I will keep going with my wood carving adventure.

Health comes first! Yay! I can't wait to see that baby on my table.

I know that Diego will be even more excited than me, he's absolutely in love with tools

and with anything that looks like a machine or something from outer space.

I didn't tell you that his favorite movie ever is a demonstration video that came with a tool

that I use for cutting craft foam.

He keeps saying: Mommy, I want to see Hot Wire Foam Factory!

This demo video is looooong, sloooow and boooooring, but in his opinion it's extremely exciting.

It features one million ways to cut foam and the main idea is that you cannot force the tool,

you need to be paaaaatient... :)
